The Utrasonic Sensor is a presence detector and can used where it is not desirable to have lead out rails with a six eye safety zone.

 

The ultrasonic detector works by detecting the presence of an object or person within the range. As the name implies it operates using an ultrsonic field rather than infrared light. One internally mounted ultrasonic sensor is required per gate and because the detection zone is not visible it is important to keep it free from obstructions which may prevent the gate from opening.
